RESUMO

Three new species of Synagelides Strand, 1906 (Araneae, Salticidae) from Yunnan, China are described: S. furcatoides sp. nov. (♂♀), S. furcatus sp. nov. (♂) and S. montiformis sp. nov. (♂♀). Photographs of the habitus and copulatory organs as well as a distribution map are provided.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To elucidate mechanisms across family function, home environment and eating behaviours within sociocultural context among Hispanic youth. DESIGN: Two models tested via path analysis (youth fruit and vegetable (FV) consumption; empty energy consumption) using data from the Study of Latino Youth (2011-2013). SETTING: Chicago, IL; Miami, FL; Bronx, NY; San Diego, CA. PARTICIPANTS: Youth (8-16-year-olds), n 1466. RESULTS: Youth ate 2·4 servings of FV per d and received 27 % of total energy from empty energies. Perceiving higher acculturative stress was indirectly associated with lower FV consumption via a pathway of low family function and family support for FV (ß = -0·013, P < 0·001) and via lower family closeness and family support (ß = -0·004, P = 0·004). Being >12-year-olds was indirectly associated with lower FV consumption via lower family closeness and family support (ß = -0·006, P < 0·001). Household food security was indirectly associated with greater FV consumption via family closeness and family support (ß = 0·005, P = 0·003). In contrast, perceiving higher acculturative stress was indirectly associated with higher empty energy consumption (via family closeness and family support: ß = 0·003, P = 0·028 and via low family function and low family support: ß = 0·008, P = 0·05). Being older was associated with higher consumption of empty energies via family closeness (related to family support: ß = 0·04, P = 0·016; parenting strategies for eating: ß = 0·002, P = 0·049). CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest pathways of influence across demographic and sociocultural context, family dynamics and home environment. The directionality of these associations needs confirmation using longitudinal data.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Central topography of autonomic nervous system (ANS) function has yet to be fully deciphered. In adults it has been shown to lateralize sympathetic and parasympathetic influence predominantly to the right and left cerebral hemispheres, respectively. We examined functional topography of central ANS in newborn subjects utilizing spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV), an established measure of ANS function. STUDY DESIGN: We studied newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy participating in a prospective study undergoing a therapeutic hypothermia protocol. We included subjects with continuous heart rate data over the first 3 h of normothermia (post rewarming) and brain magnetic resonance imaging, which was reviewed and scored according to a 4 region scheme. HRV was evaluated by spectral analysis in the low-frequency (0.05 to 0.25 Hz) and high-frequency (0.3 to 1 Hz) ranges. The relationship between injured brain regions and HRV was studied using multiple regressions. RESULTS: Forty eight newborns were included. When examined in isolation, right hemisphere injury had a significant negative effect on HRV (-0.088; 95% CI: -0.225,-0.008). The combination of posterior fossa region injury with right hemispheric injury or left hemispheric injury demonstrated significant positive (0.299; 95% CI: 0.065, 0.518) and negative (-0.475; 95% CI: -0.852, -0.128) influences on HRV, respectively. The association between brain injury location and HRV in the high-frequency range did not reach significance. CONCLUSION: Our data support the notion that lateralized cerebral modulation of the ANS, specifically of its sympathetic component, is present in the term newborn, and suggest complex modulation of these tracts by components of the posterior fossa.

RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to investigate the changes in mitotic reorientation and relative differential gene expression in rat prostate epithelial cells following long-term exposure to testosterone propionate (TP). Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two groups as follows: TP group, which received 3.7 mg/kg/day TP for 30 days (n=10); and control group, in which rats were injected with olive oil (n=10). Microscopic analysis of the prostate tissue was performed by immunohistochemical analysis and hematoxylin and eosin staining. Differential gene expression analysis was performed via gene microarray, and a total of five genes (Dkk3, Ran, Fas, Tgm4 and Wnt2) were selected and their expression levels were verified using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. For rats treated with TP, mitosis was significantly reoriented, becoming parallel to the basement membrane. By contrast, in the control group cells mitotic orientation remained perpendicular to the basement membrane. Genes such as Ran and Tgm4 in the androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway and Wnt2 in the Wnt signaling pathway, were upregulated following treatment with TP. Conversely, the Dkk3 and Fas genes were downregulated following treatment with TP. In conclusion, mitotic orientation of prostate epithelial cells was altered following long-term administration of TP. Wnt and AR signaling pathways influenced cell proliferation and may have participated in the mitotic orientation change.
